Meeting 2
by admin on Apr.27, 2009, under Uncategorized
After meeting for the second time, we have changed the whole entire project due to the fact we are no longer aloud to do a night scene. We have settled on creating an advertisement for a hotel resort. The architecture of the resort is going to be extremely modern and inspired by the architecture in Dubai. Here is a quick copy of the notes taken during the meeting. Once a complete shot list and storyboard are created, it will be updated.
Modern Island Resort
Final product will be a completely computer generated island resort commercial.
Time- 0:30+
Includes appropriate music with voice over from voice artist.

Meeting 1 - Conceptualize

So far we’re leaning towards an urban/city scene at night using artificial lighting (neon, street lights, spot lights, etc.)
We’ve agreed that no animated characters will be used. Maybe some static stand-in’s ok? I will do a test on a simple bot using Maya’s biped with some geometry stuck to it. If it’s too time consuming then I’ll scratch the idea. I’m using Bjork’s ‘All is Full of Love’ music video as inspiration.
Here is the test animation of the ship flying through the city.
It’s main testing purposes were to animate camera focal length, pans, and tilts. The overall feel of the city is something for inspiration. All the buildings were thrown together within a couple hours, and mostly utilize the same shader with glow applied only to the solid white boxes for lit windows. The glowing purple engine, again using glow.
Maya glow can be a pain; forgot the quirk, but it acts goofy unless you change some attributes. I’ll fetch this in my docs. If we use glow, we’ll know how to fix it…
The Transformer 2 trailer is amazing in terms of editing, pace, and energy.
For PC’s using OpenGL, here’s the link to the demo’s. They’re the prize winners of the competition in Germany that typically involves artists from around the world. One of their competitions is 64k contest - they produce several minutes of animated music videos and the file size must be under 64k. Incredible stuff to learn about efficiency and the power of shaders with simple geometry.
Try any of these - you need a powerful graphics card, at least a GeForce 7 series.

Class is now underway and we are learning about poly modeling in Maya, especially efficient interface setup.
